ConclusionFun in the Sun... At a Distance
That time of year is almost upon us.
The days are getting longer, the sun is getting brighter, and the weather is getting warmer.
It is almost time for nearly everyones favorite summertime activity: a day at the beach.
However, the weather hasn’t been the only change we have seen recently.
The development of Covid-19 has unfortunately caused a great many changes not only around the country but around the world as well.
We have seen many beloved institutions rescheduled, cancelled, or adapted.
It's regrettably just the way things have had to be this year.
Thankfully, the state parks in Georgia have been left open.
There are still some pleasures available to the public, such as a delightful day at the beach.
However, precautions still must be employed when it comes to keeping people safe from the virus even when enjoying the ocean.
Arrowhead Clinic Wilmington Island wants you to enjoy the sun and surf as much as possible.
That is why we have compiled this brief list of five tips for enjoying the beach while social distancing.
1. Create a Perimeter
It may sound drastic and overly dramatic, however, setting up a barrier to keep you isolated on the beach is a great way to keep yourself from being exposed to Covid-19.
Now, this does not mean that you have to set up stakes and barbed wire.
This can be as simple as laying out a beach towel and strategically placing your equipment for the day.
It can be as inconspicuous as a couple of boogie boards, a cooler, and maybe an umbrella.
It does not have to be Fort Knox, it just has to ensure a couple of feet between you and whoever else may be out on the beach.
2. Communicate
Unfortunately, we have lost some of the ability to be delicate due to the onslaught of the virus.
In order to keep yourself as safe as possible, it is imperative that you keep as much distance from others as humanly possible.
One of the most effective ways to do this is just open communication.
Chances are, whoever you are talking too is aware of this criteria and is equally motivated to keep their distance from you.
Politely and kindly inform someone if they are getting to close to you to please take a step back in order to promote social distancing.
It is not the time to be “delicate” but it is always the time to be polite.
3. Find an Empty Space
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
You do not have to set up precautions such as a makeshift barrier or an awkward conversation if you do not run the risk of coming into contact with someone else.
In very many cases, beaches tend to be wide and sprawling.
More than likely there is bound to be an open space away from other people somewhere.
This may require a small walk along the coast till you find such a spot, but at least there’s a beautiful view.
What’s a little walk when compared to maintaining your health?
4. Time it Properly
As with anything else, timing is everything.
There are bound to be times where there is less traffic on the beach than other times.
When going to the beach, people tend to go early in the day.
This makes sense in an ordinary scenario.
The earlier one goes the more time they have for seaside fun.
However, when one’s main goal is to maintain ones health, timing has to be a little flexible.
It may be best to wait until later in the afternoon, when people have had their fill and decide to move on.
It may not be a typical beach holiday, but thinner crowds will mean less potential contact with others and thus keeping you safe.
5. Keep an Open Mind for Alternatives
This is the time for flexibility. We have all had to make provisions and we have all had to make sacrifices.
Regrettably, we’re all going to have to keep on doing so until this time of crisis has ended.
It may just not be possible to have one’s ideal trip to the beach.
However, the one resource we all still have plenty of is ingenuity.
There are many other ways to have some water filled good times than a trip to the beach.
Perhaps you or a neighbor has a pool you can take turns in.
Maybe you have a small inflatable pool you can use.
When in doubt, there’s always fun to be had running through the sprinkler or making your own waterslide out of tarps.
It’s not quite the same as a visit to the shore, but for now alternatives may just have to do.
Hang in there, good times are just around the corner.
Conclusion
All this probably seems like an awful lot of trouble for one to go through for a simple visit to the beach.
However, we have all had to make provisions and sacrifices during this unprecedented time.
Hopefully before too long it will be nothing but an unpleasant memory.
In the mean time, we have to be smart and careful.
Despite the best intentions and precautions, accidents do still happen.
If you find you have had an accident that resulted in an injury, you have options.

We will come alongside of you to help you recover and get you back to soaking up the sun on a nice sandy beach as soon as possible.
