Arrowhead Clinic Albany Provides 7 Helpful Suggestions for Dancers

Dancing brings us all together.

Dance the Night Away

There are few universals that span across all cultures.

There will be inherently some differences between any groups of people.

However, there are a few things that unite us all as human beings.

One such thing is dancing.

Nearly every culture values dancing in some form or another.

This can range from traditional Irish step to American Square dancing and everything beyond.

More than likely you or someone you love is fond of this form of expression.

Dancing is more than just an art form but an excellent form of exercise.

Here at Arrowhead Clinic Albany we want you to get the most out of your dancing.

That is why we have compiled this list of seven suggestions for every dancer to practice.

1. Good Posture

It is a core truth of the chiropractic community that the proper alignment of ones spine is absolutely pivotal to maintaining overall health and bodily efficiency.

A person should take great care to ensure that no matter what activity they are  partaking in that efforts should be made to do what is best for ones back and spinal cord.

This can be as simple as maintaining good posture whenever possible, on or off the dance floor.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, whatever precautions you take today will help keep you fit and dancing in the time to come.

Stretching is important for dancing well.

2. Proper Stretching

Like any physical activity it is imperative that proper stretching and preparation proceed your dancing.

Proper stretching loosens up the body and allows it to move not only more efficiently but safer as well.

Warming up these muscles will help keep you from potentially straining them and leading to injury.

Stretching will help you dance even better because your body will be moving much more effectively

3. Proper Technique

In a similar vein to proper stretching, it is equally important to practice proper technique when out on the dance floor.

If you perform your moves the right way, the likelihood of receiving injury will be reduced.

If you keep it to the proper movements, you more than likely wont overexert and injure yourself.

It's all about intentional movement and control. If you dance like you're supposed to, everything should keep moving smoothly.

It is important to wear the proper shoes.

4. Equipment

Many sports rely on the use of proper equipment and dancing is no exception.

Proper footwear is essential to the successful dancer.

This has more to do with the proper execution of various dance moves than keeping one physically healthy.

However, the better one performs the likelihood of receiving injury decreases.

Whether this means tap shoes, ballet slippers, or ballroom shoes, be sure to have the right pair on.

Also when practicing, wear clothes that allow full movement and are not constricting.

5. Communication

When practicing your craft with other people it is imperative to keep the line of communication open.

This is the case for many reasons.

While executing certain moves gracefully, it is sometimes necessary to let your partner know what is coming up.

This will help keep your dance smooth and fun.

If you become tired or you are starting to feel pain, it is important to tell this to your partner or your dance instructor.

Continuing to exert yourself in such a way can potentially lead to injury.

This is the case whether or not one is a beginner or a seasoned expert.

This is especially true when performing more dramatic movements such as lifts, throws, or dips.

Communication between partners and instructors is pivotal to creating the most effective routines.

Proper nutrition is necessary for every athlete.

6. Physical Health

In many ways your body is like machine.

For it to run at its peak efficiency, all the different parts need to be working together in their optimum condition.

For us human beings, this means taking care of your body even when you are not on the dance floor.

It is critical to strengthen and exercise all parts of your body, not just the ones that you use in your dance routines.

Proper nutrition is also important for optimum health.

If you fill your tank with the right kind of fuel, your machine should keep running well for a long time.

This means diets high in protein, high in fruits and vegetables, and low in junk food.

Take care of your body, and your body will take care of you.

7.  Education

Finally, no one has ever been worse off for increasing their own education.

Everyone can stand to learn something new.

If you want to increase your skills, why not visit a dance studio and get some more formal training?

Something as simple as this can improve your existing skills, increase your repertoire, and make you and even better dancer.

You can also increase your dance skills by learning about your body and how it works best.
