Corona is Sham-rocking the Country
Unfortunately, there has been a lot of concern around the world lately with the development and spread of Corona virus.
In some cases, drastic measures have been made in order to keep as many people safe and away from potential harm.
It seems that every event which features a large gathering of people has been postponed, adjusted or cancelled.
Despite all the cancellations occurring, the city of Savannah still has one group holding out.
The annual St. Patricks Day celebrations in Savannah are likely to continue as planned.
There are many steps one can take in order to stay healthy during this trying time.
Keeping physical contact to a minimum and frequent hand washing are recommended.

Savannah has a long history when it comes to celebrating Celtic heritage. The city was practically founded with Irish pride infused in its construction.
The patron saint of Savannah is St. Patrick and much of the month of March is dedicated to honoring him.
According to some sources, the Savannah St. Patricks Day Parade is the second largest in the country. However, with the cancellations of other cities revelries, they may be moving up this year.
As much as the city loves its annual celebration of Irish heritage, the officials love their citizens even more. They have not overlooked the potential threat of the Corona virus upon the citizens. They have been in deliberations on whether or not they should follow suit and cancel this years festivities.
At this point in time, the celebration will seemingly continue as planned.

There is an upcoming city council meeting on Thursday, March 12th, where more
definite plans will be discussed on how to best proceed with the celebrations.
It is a difficult dilemma. Basically the entire first half of the month of March is dedicated to the celebration of Irish and Celtic pride.
A heritage that many citizens within the city share, and others appreciate and love.
However, there are other reasons besides cultural identity and pride for why the annual festivities are so important to the city.
The celebration brings in a tremendous amount of money for local businesses, restaurants and hotels.
This great economic stimulation is not only financed by locals, but by many out of town revelers who want to take part in the celebrations. Shutting down the celebrations could drastically effect many members of the community.
The City Council is not taking the concerns about Corona virus lightly and will ultimately do what is best for the safety of its citizens.

Currently there are no confirmed cases of Corona in Chatham County. There are only 12 cases in the entire state of Georgia.
However, if we know one thing bout Corona it is fast spreading.

There is not currently a travel ban and people are still free to come and go as they please. When it comes to Savannah, people are using their freedom to partake in one of the greatest celebrations of Irish pride in the country.
The city is working very closes with the Department of Public Health and taking special notice of everything the CDC is recommending in order to keep Savannah’s citizens and visitors safe.
